Brand and legal guidance

Using other companies' names, logos and artwork in your posts without trouble.

knitted makes advertising, and advertising has rules. This page is guidance, not legal advice.

Other people's logos

  • Never use the Apple logo to stand for Apple Music, or at all, without written permission from Apple. A badge you drew yourself that looks like it is not allowed either.
  • Do not imply that a company endorses you.
  • A plain statement of compatibility, such as "works with" followed by the company's name in ordinary type, is usually allowed. Keep their name less prominent than your own and include any credit line they ask for.

Real album art and photos

Real album covers, artists' photos and track information should not appear in marketing or advertising without the rights holder's permission. A boosted post and a paid video ad both count as advertising. Use placeholder art in your own colours instead.

The same rule everywhere

The shape of this applies to any third-party brand you put in a Pattern. If it is not yours, or you do not have a licence, leave it out or ask first. Check the brand's published guidelines.

What knitted does about it

knitted's own sample patterns use only our own brand. No stock photos and no one else's logo.
