The vocabulary

Pattern, Swatch, Yarn, Stitch, Knit and Part. Six words, used the same way everywhere.

knitted uses a small set of craft words, the same in the app, the docs and the tools your model uses. What you read is what you call it.

Word What it means
Pattern A reusable layout with locked brand slots.
Swatch A brand kit: colours, fonts, logos and a written voice.
Yarn Your raw material: photos, logos, video, audio and copy.
Stitch One element in a Pattern: a text box, an image slot, a shape.
Knit The verb for producing output. "Knit 12 posts from this Pattern."
Part A reusable fragment smaller than a Pattern, such as a lower-third or a logo sting.

How they fit together

A Part is made of Stitches. A Pattern is made of Stitches and Parts. A Pattern uses one Swatch and draws on your Yarn. You Knit a Pattern to get files.

Locked and free

Every Stitch is either locked or free. A locked Stitch is drawn with a dashed orange outline and cannot be changed by whoever uses the Pattern, your model included. A free Stitch has a solid outline and is yours to change.

If you are used to other tools

Other tools may say template, brand kit, asset or generate. Here those are Pattern, Swatch, Yarn and Knit. The difference in the word is deliberate: a Pattern is something you set once, and Knit is something you do as often as you like.
